What is a chess variant?

A variant changes one or more rules of chess, like piece movement, setup, or win conditions.

Do I need to memorize a lot?

No. Most variants have a small number of rule changes. MessChess will highlight the differences.

Will MessChess support custom pieces?

Yes. The direction is a piece and variant designer with validation and a testing sandbox.

Is online multiplayer available?

Not yet on this deployment. The full prototype is being wired in next.

Why was the site broken earlier?

The domain was pointing at a host with no deployment attached, and a separate hosting path had SSL issues.
